So this is my account for the Lemon project, @zestarius.the.yellow . I've decided to wait until now to do my first blog about the project because I wanted to break down the account's evolution up until now and how it has changed since the beginning.

Initially I had struggled to come up with content to create or repost, especially about Lemons. A good starting point was/ is the 2024 US Election because of how current it is, but other than that I had very little of an idea of which niche I would fill that would make people follow. The posts felt aimless.

I figured out from asking a friend early on that doing a follow for follow scheme for ~300ish accounts that follow similar niche "meme" accounts can be a good way to increase traffic and get the ball rolling as such so that's mainly how I've made it to 100 but now people who I didn't follow at first are starting to follow me and I tend to follow back to maximize engagement.

As I was struggling to find ideas earlier on, I checked my own feed on my other accounts and noticed that I had been getting a lot of content about Himalayan Groundhogs or "Marmots" and I also got into a habit of cutting them out to make stickers for Whatsapp and other Social Media just for fun, probably because of that.

It's a well known fact that cuteness and cute animals sell too so really it just made sense to make that into my niche because I think that would gain WAY MORE traction than milquetoast political commentary or other fruit mascots like the Mango or the Raspberry that I've used. Also if I don't feel like making my own post on a certain day, I can still gain traction by reposting a Marmot video and adding a Lemon related caption and my mascot.

I really think this is the correct direction to go with the account because I enjoy doing it mainly for the Marmots and I feel it adds a little personality to the page which will keep people coming back, but only time will tell. It's going well so far in terms of followers anyway as I'm pretty sure that I'm 2nd place too in the class by quite a lot.

Hashtags:

Now this is an interesting one. At first I was very conservative with my tagging, professional about it if you will, but as my desperation to become 1st place grew I decided to start overdoing them with every post to the point where instagram wouldn't allow me to publish, I also found out around the same time that they're not really as effective as they once were in terms opf outreach either, becoming redundant on instagram at least because of the sophistication of algorithms these days where they're just not needed for captions on posts to succeed.

Because of this I decided instead to cut-back on Hashtags and instead focus on writing a good Alt-Text caption for each post, which apparently gives a greater boost in the algorithm and only use relevant hashtags to get more followers. Lesson learned, lesson learned...
