Independent Project #1

My game concept for the independent project is a COD: Zombies/ Gears of War Horde style game where you fight off waves of enemies against a timer with a scoreboard and I'm going for quite a simplified, sci-fi, cartoonish aestetic. Here's a really early treatment:

In the futuristic fast moving city of Greater New Utopia there is an invention for every ailment, a wonder for every woe. The city is built upon the backs not of the Humans who inhabit but instead the perfect workers, the chemically engineered Gibbies, a hivemind collective that perform simply programmed manual labour, however after a lab accident, a simple chemical miscalculation, the latest batch of Gibbies has gone berserk and started tearing up the city.

You are Lance Lazerblast, a G.N.U.P.D. Specialist Officer and total maverick tasked with cleaning up any and all incidents of a scientific nature in the city of wonders. Lance has managed to divert all the Gibbies’ attention to the City’s ‘Advancement Square’ where he goes all out in a last stand where he (You the Player) will use Lance’s arsenal of weapons to tear down waves of the Gibbies and SAVE THE CITY!!! Until the next time…

I think I may change the story at some point due to Tutor input sugesting that I make the story where you play as a Gibby instead who is programmed to destroy the others, which creates a more compelling storyline and falls in line with the idea of questioning the objective of the game and the whole idea of free choice to choose a different way to finish the game and 'go against the program'.

Today I've gotten the basic mechanics down for the game. There is movement, aiming, jump, sprint, enemy movement, a single gun and firing on a test level.

There was a large issue with creating a Headshot damage modifer for the enemies though which remains unsolved as of writing this.

I have no official Roadmap as of now so to speak of but I feel while making this project, I want to get every aspect of it coded before I start working on the visuals of the game.
